Most of the time the trouble is with the starter and there may come a point where you need to replace it. If there is an electrical problem, then the car will not start. You will know because when you put in the key and try to tart it, the car may seem dead and the engine will not make any of the usual noises.

However, before directly suspecting the starter you should check the battery and the fuse and make sure they are okay. Also, check the ground wires and make sure they are all connected as they should be. Finally, if you have zeroed in on the starter, then you should probably replace it.

To replace the starter, remove the bolts holding the starter to the transmission. You will find the upper bolt located below the air cleaner and the bottom bolt near the transmission bell. Always remove the starter from the bottom of the car. Then remove all the electrical connections attached to the starter, and make sure you make a note of the wires as to what goes in where. Install the new starter and then connect the electrical wires first. Reconnect the battery and make sure that all slots are filled with the wires as they are supposed to be. In the end, place the bolts and then shake the starter once to see if it is firmly held in place.
